Is it right for your rack?
Shortlist it for a 120 V rack when a 1,000 W output ceiling fits your measured load and APC’s monitoring options fit your workflow. The product name alone is not a sizing specification.
Fits: 120 V installations needing a 2U line-interactive UPS, six 5-15R outputs, and a documented shutdown and monitoring path.
Look elsewhere: Loads exceeding 1,000 W, 208/230 V equipment, or projects requiring online double-conversion topology.

Primary documentation: APC, CyberPower, and the exact-model datasheets/manuals listed in Sources. Both fit 2U height; depth, rail hardware and operating clearance still require a rack check.
The tradeoffs
Reasons to shortlist
- Explicit 1,000 W output rating for load planning.
- SmartConnect and local communication options.
- Common 120 V plug and receptacle format.
Reasons to pause
- The 1500-class name can obscure the lower watt rating.
- Line-interactive topology does not provide online double conversion.
- Six receptacles may require a separately compatible PDU.
The number that should drive your shortlist
The name puts this unit in a 1500-class family, but Schneider’s rated output for this exact US model is 1,440 VA and 1,000 W. Those are separate limits. A rack drawing more than 1,000 W is outside its watt rating even if a seller’s title emphasizes “1500.”
Our buying inference is straightforward: write down the load in watts, confirm apparent power in VA, and check both against the exact model. Leave capacity for the load changes your project expects. A nameplate total is useful context; a measured operating load is more useful for choosing equipment.
Monitoring is a workflow decision
SmartConnect provides a cloud monitoring path. USB and serial connections, plus a SmartSlot, give other integration options. Monitoring, graceful host shutdown, and remote outlet control are different capabilities; a network connection does not establish that all three are included.
Before buying, document how each critical host will learn about a power event and shut down. Check current SmartConnect service terms and any separately required card or software. We have not tested the cloud service or a hypervisor shutdown integration.
Runtime: compare the same load, not the same percentage
A half-load runtime claim refers to half of that UPS’s own rating. Half of this unit’s 1,000 W capacity is 500 W; half of a 1,500 W alternative is 750 W. Those figures cannot establish which lasts longer at a common rack load.
Use the exact manufacturer runtime chart at your measured watts. Battery age, temperature, charge state and load behavior also matter. Rack Headroom has not run a battery discharge test, and we do not turn the VA rating into an estimated number of minutes.
Rack and operating costs
The 2U height is only one part of fit. Confirm rack depth, supported rail range, mounting kit contents, weight and service clearance in the current installation guide. Plan for battery replacement access before a rack is fully populated.
Compare the complete purchase: the exact UPS, any monitoring card, mounting accessories, replacement battery availability, warranty eligibility and seller support. A less expensive listing can be the wrong purchase if it is a different region or an incomplete used unit.
The exact-model datasheet lists rack support rails as included; verify the seller’s bundle. The replacement cartridge is APCRBC159. Schneider’s compatibility FAQ says the non-C SMT1500RM2U uses APCRBC133 and the cartridges are not interchangeable because the retention positions differ. Check the full UPS model when planning battery replacement.
Check these before you order
- Match SMT1500RM2UC exactly, including suffix and US electrical configuration.
- Confirm voltage, input plug, output receptacles and the complete load path.
- Verify rack depth, mounting accessories, weight and service clearance in the installation guide.
- Confirm included management features, software compatibility, warranty, seller, and replacement parts.
Make the next step a model check.
